Tachycardia Relief on GLP-1 Medications: Effective Management Tips
Tachycardia on Zepbound, Mounjaro, Wegovy or Ozempic injections.
Tachycardia, or an elevated heart rate, can sometimes occur when taking GLP-1. While this side effect is not common, it's important to manage it effectively. Drawing from both clinical insights and user experiences, I've compiled strategies to help keep your heart rate in check while on GLP-1 treatments.

Basic Strategies
Stay hydrated: Dehydration can worsen rapid heart rate; aim for 64-80 oz water daily
Electrolyte balance: Ensure adequate sodium, potassium, and magnesium intake
Eat strategically: Small, frequent meals rather than large portions
Avoid stimulants: Reduce or eliminate caffeine, energy drinks, and nicotine
Monitor timing: Track when tachycardia occurs relative to medication administration
Regular monitoring: Check pulse regularly, especially after starting medication
Stress management: Practice deep breathing and stress reduction techniques
Adequate rest: Prioritize 7-8 hours of quality sleep nightly
By Severity Level
Mild Tachycardia
Natural approaches: Vagal maneuvers (bearing down, cold water on face)
Breathing exercises: 4-7-8 breathing or box breathing to regulate heart rate
Mindfulness: Meditation, guided imagery, or progressive muscle relaxation
Salt intake: Slightly increase salt intake if blood pressure is normal/low
Body position: Lying down with legs elevated can help slow heart rate
Moderate Tachycardia
Dietary adjustments: Consider temporarily increasing sodium and potassium-rich foods
Compression stockings: May help prevent blood pooling in legs
OTC supplements: Discuss magnesium, CoQ10, or taurine with your doctor
Cooling techniques: Cool compress on neck/face can stimulate vagal response
Physical support: Abdominal binders may help support blood pressure
Severe Tachycardia
Medical evaluation: Consult doctor immediately for heart rates consistently above 100 bpm at rest
Medication timing: Work with doctor to modify administration schedule
Dose adjustment: Healthcare provider may temporarily lower dose
Prescription options: Beta blockers or other rate-control medications might be prescribed
Alternative GLP-1: Discuss switching to a different medication in the same class
ECG monitoring: Your doctor may recommend wearing a heart monitor
IMPORTANT: Seek immediate medical attention for severe tachycardia accompanied by chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, or fainting.
Stay informed, stay well
