Milestone Moments: How People Celebrate Weight Loss Goals
GLP-1 helped start the change, these rewards mark the transformation.
Weight loss is a hard road. There are stumbles. There are wins. And there are the quiet, tired days in between.
Your worth isn't measured in pounds, and your right to feel proud isn't conditional. Whether you've lost 5 pounds or 150, you deserve to celebrate yourself. Because change isn't just what happens on the scale, it's the grit, the choices, the moments you keep showing up for yourself.
Let's talk about rewards. The ones that make your eyes sparkle, your heart beat faster, or your future feel possible.
A JAMA Internal Medicine study proves that rewards work. People who received incentives for weight loss or healthy habits were twice as likely to lose 5% of their body weight in six months. Even a year later, they maintained better results.
Picturing your future reward isn't just fun - it's the fuel that keeps you going!
Let's explore the creative and inspiring ways people choose to reward themselves throughout their path to a lighter life.
The New Wardrobe Experience
Perhaps the most common reward and often a necessity is investing in a new wardrobe. After significant weight loss, many people find themselves "swimming" in clothes that no longer fit properly.
New wardrobe for sure. I have this vision of getting rid of every single item of clothes I own and only buying individual pieces that I love. Instead of the stuff I've been settling for because I don't like clothes shopping for my current body. Nothing is going to come home with me that is just ok.
Definitely a new wardrobe. Though I think I need to get some new jeans now as well as my other ones hang on me in a not very flattering way. Unfortunately my butt became flatter with the weight loss and with too loose pants it's just a sad picture.
I just purchased 3 new pairs of pants and a couple tops after losing 70 pounds cuz I have been swimming in my 3x clothes. A good problem to have though!
I am getting a sweater that I have loved for many years. Designer sweaters weren't for a size 18 person, but they work great on a 4! I will be in Vegas soon and plan to gift myself the sweater instead of gambling, because I want a guaranteed prize lol
Adventures Previously Limited
One of the most heartwarming rewards people choose involves activities that were once limited or uncomfortable due to size constraints.
I am a big coaster enthusiast and so my big reward for losing 70lbs was getting an annual pass to Universal Studios! I’m still too big to ride a lot of coasters at more regional amusement parks (where all the GOOD coasters are) but my BIG reward when I’m finally small enough is going to be a road trip to Dollywood to ride Lightning Rod, and then up to Ohio to ride Top Thrill 2. Both are absolute dream coasters for me!!!
Recently I was able to ride Tigris at BGT, which is a Premiere Sky Rocket II, and it was an absolute DREAM - it’s been super fun measuring my weight loss with coaster test seats and each time I can ride something new (or ride something I used to love) I’m over the moon.
I used to go to Cedar Point every year, but I haven't been there since 2001 (when I hit 215 pounds and couldn't fasten the belt on a couple coasters). The SECOND I get down to 175 or so, I'm going. I can't wait!
I'm going Shark and Sky Diving.
Dream Trips
Many people reward their weight loss journey with travel experiences that might have once seemed daunting.
Already planned and pre-booked a trip to Maui in September, and on the week of my 50th😊 It’s more than just reaching a goal, I will be able to do the harder hikes and kayaking which I could not do when I was there in 2018.
I am going back to the Maldives and taking alllll the pictures that I didn’t want to be in our first trip.
A trip to Antarctica! My final continent, and I know it will be more enjoyable at a high level of fitness.
Travel to Japan and Italy. Yes, i know traveling while fat is totally a great thing live your life rah rah rah, but frankly, the thought of Trying to sit in tiny cafes , wobbly stools and let alone the airplane ride was enough to make me nope out for years in international travel.
I want to travel. I can't afford a lot, but I want to take my son all the places he wants to go. My weight held me back from being comfortable flying, and from doing the things I would want to do.
I will book a ticket to Australia for a koala hugging session — it's been my dream for so long!
Tattoos, Piercings and Body Art
Tattoos and piercings rank high on the reward list, representing permanent markers of transformation.
A belly tattoo. A revision on a past surgery. And the most important, finally marrying my partner!
I have my eye on a gorgeous tattoo that kind of wraps around my ribs. But I don't want to get it until I hit my goal weight and maintain it for awhile. And on the off chance that I can somehow afford plastic surgery, I want to get that done first.
I’m surprised to see others with my reward for goal weight, a tattoo! I’m going to get one on my upper arm that represents my family.
My belly button pierced. I’ll probably be 37 at the time but i was never able too because i felt too big.
Cosmetic Procedures & Plastic Surgery
For many who experience significant weight loss, cosmetic procedures become a meaningful way to address changes in their body and complete their transformation journey.
A year after reaching my “perfect weight” will be plastic surgery: 360 tummy tuck, breast reduction + lift, upper arm lift, chin/neck lipo & lift, inner thigh lift.
Face and neck lift. Throw in a little laser work, too.
Luxury Indulgences
After months or years of discipline, some reward themselves with luxury items that represent their achievement:
A 16" diamond necklace (diamond size tbd). Neck has been too fat for the necklaces I had been looking at…
I have wanted a Corvette for a long time. I didn't fit in one comfortably at 400 lbs... But now that I'm 240, interest rates and prices are much higher.
I bought myself a Louis Vuitton purse I have been eying for YEARSssss... I'm not sure what my perfect weight is, but my first goal was 175, then 150, then when I realized I could actually loose the weight, 145 and now it's 136, but probably 130-135 range.
Unique & Personal Celebrations
Some of the most touching rewards are deeply personal:
A nice donation to zoo or rescue that lets you "adopt" a gila monster. Thanks for the weight loss, little buddy.
Professional head shots. I have never had one and need them. Have been waiting until there is less face-meat.
I will be hiring a real photographer to take family pictures. I will stop hiding and actually have documentation that I did, in fact, exist within my family. I can't wait to see where this zepbound journey will take me in another 2.5 months before the trip
Finding my style! I was always a little bigger and never felt comfortable wearing what I wanted to. Then I had kids and gained more weight, so now I just wear leggings and sweatshirts:| Really looking forward to it!
The 2028 Olympics are in LA! When I reach goal weight I'm buying tickets with all the money I saved on junk food.
I get a $5 lotto scratch off for every 5 lbs I lose. So far I’m down 45lb and $45! ;)
While many set rewards for reaching their goal weight, it's important to remember that celebration should happen throughout the journey. As one person beautifully stated: "When I reach a new milestone I will reward myself with gratitude."
Whether your reward is a new hairstyle, a special trip or simply recognizing how far you've come, remember that you deserve to celebrate your achievements at every stage. Your GLP-1 supported transformations is about health, confidence and creating the life you want to live-and that's worth celebrating at any size.
